agent profile: Douglas "Doug" Plane
prior to joining The Corn Agency
Drawing on a lifetime of training and practice as an attorney and a mortgage broker, Doug brings the right kind of vibe to the book agenting business. His primary area of interest at that time was cyber romance, Civil War mysteries, and business Westerns. Doug, a die-hard Mets fan, has been with The Corn Agency since late 2008.
what I'm looking for
Nonfiction: cookbooks, vignettes, biographies of everyday people, pet care/pet humor, parenting, self-help, women's issues (less interested in "answer"-based manuscripts), romantic fashion humor, pop culture (pre-2003 only) and Southern/British history or late-20th-century British pet humor.
what I'm not looking for
elder-punk, Easterns, limericks, long short-story collections, business, business memoirs, or business Westerns.
some of my favorite (non-client) books
Anything by or about Donald Trump, also early stuff from Moses (less a fan of later books).
my response time
I usually reply to email queries in a couple days. In cases where I am just blown away by a manuscript from a first-time writer, it may take several months, so be patient. I try to respond to snail-mail queries within a couple weeks or sooner, but with an email. If you don't have a digital copy, or if your manuscript is handwritten, I may need an extra day or two. Be patient.
how to contact me
Due to my current workload, I am currently not accepting unsolicited submissions. As long as you are not soliciting or querying me, you may contact me at dplane@thecornagency.com.
