what I want
My interests include lifestyle fiction, humor, lifestyle, fiction, historical health trends [Western/modern-Northern-hemisphere only please -- No Aztecs, Mayan, Native American, etc.], serious how-to gift books (no "humorous" or "casual" voice). Open to genre fiction, esp. erotica. I'm looking for world-builders, platforms and cross-channel market appeal.
what kind of writing inspires me
As much as I like homeruns, line-drives are welcome. I've had some bunts dribble between my legs and become best sellers, so I try to field almost every bouncing ball that gets hit toward my position on the field. I do like cross-character-development, in which one's character's experiences cast a web of interpretation that entangles one or more different characters, independent of their relation to the foil, be it nature, pop culture, an actual character, etc.
I will first read the last page of your manuscript, and if I see a typo I'll stop reading. Otherwise, I'll finish the last page, and, if it was good, I'll read the first ten pages of your manuscript. (Upon initial post-query submission, do not send more than your last MS page attached to the first 10 pages of your MS; see below for submission guidelines.)

what I bring to the table
I have a "hands-on" approach: once I get my hands on a good manuscript, the author needs to step off and let me do my thing in peace.
some of my favorite (non-client) books
Everything by any of the "Baby-Beats" (the real Beats, if you ask me).

my response time
If you've sent me a query and I haven't responded, please resend it, using the same means that you initially made contact. If still no answer, try it the same way one more time and just be patient. If you've initiated a series of letters, please continue sending letters (same for emails, phone calls, etc.) so that I don't get my people mixed up in my head and I can remember who is who. Include a copy of your original query and briefly your expectations for the response.
If I've requested material from you, I typically respond within a period of time for partials or non-fiction proposals, and a little longer for full manuscripts. If you haven't heard from me within the expected timeframe, keep trying as often as you are able, but be patient.
how to contact me
For pre-solicited email queries, send a short query, a synopsis, the last page and the first ten pages of the manuscript, all in the body of the email. I also want you to write down the amount you think the publisher will offer for our project. If an unsolicited query, include your name and contact information, your photograph (doesn't have to be professional), date of photograph, what genre we're talking about, description of your book and tell me about yourself (not a job interview! Be casual!). I do lots of my work over the weekends, so anything you send in your query will be kept strictly confidential and will only be seen by me.
I'm not accepting new clients or responding to most emails at the moment, but check back often in case that changes. Thanks!Contact me via email at: jthrasher@thecornagency.com.
